The Faceless Eyes of French Director Georges Frange (Les Yeux Sans Visage) is a disturbing, sometimes poetic horror film. Pierre Brasser plays a brilliant plastic surgeon, Prof. Genesis, who has promised to repair the face of his daughter, Christian (Edith Scob), who was maimed in a car accident. With the help of his assistant (Alida Vali), he abducts young women, surgically removes the features of their face and tries to convey their beauty to his daughter's horrible face. This, of course, affects the "donors", some of whom commit suicide instead of going impersonal through life. It is the ghostly, muted handling of the horror's main material that sets Franco's Eye out of the ordinary into the realm of classical music. However, when the movie didn't draw crowds under the original title, distributors decide to use it as a two-part "blast movie" with the new title, "The Horror Chamber of Dr Faustus."
